The Mute Swan: Finding Hope and Healing in God’s Beauty

All of us have experienced loss… of a loved one, a marriage, health and these days many of us are losing their jobs, homes and financial security. Do you find yourself wondering:

• Why did this horrible thing happen to me?
• Why isn’t God answering my prayers?
• Why does God let bad things happen to good people?

Debra Classen was a 21 year old art student in San Francisco when her mother was kidnapped, raped and murdered. Debra, her sister and their mom had just finished eating dinner when mom left the restaurant to get the car and never returned. Her body was found near the Golden Gate Bridge. The case remains unsolved.

Classen gave up art school in San Francisco, and within a couple of years she married and started a family. As much as she loved being a mom, there was a void in her life. She began a spiritual quest in search of hope and healing in a faith she could embrace.

The Mute Swan is the result of Classen’s spiritual journey for hope and healing. In her words, “I wanted to help people find the sacred, find God’s beauty, in ordinary events, even suffering and pain and struggle.”
